Description

The V-1 (Fi103) missile is the first cruise missile in the world. The Germans concentrated their V-1 missile launch positions on the French coast towards Britain. On June 13, 1944, the German V-1 missile launching unit (155th Anti-aircraft Artillery Regiment) began to attack the British warrior. As of September 4 of the same year, the Germans launched a total of more than 8,600 V-1 missiles into the southeastern part of the United Kingdom, of which about 5,000 were directed at London, but less than half of them actually hit London. Moreover, the casualties caused by most missiles are not large, and only a few missiles hit the densely populated areas to cause more serious casualties and losses. Until the beginning of January 1945, the total number of missiles fired at British targets reached about 10,500. About 175 V-1s were converted into missiles carrying a pilot. This missile was prepared to be launched into the air with a Henkel He111 bomber and then fired from its lower part. The pilot of the missile jumped off the missile after aiming the missile at the target. However, despite many trials and training, the manned V-1 missiles have never been used in actual combat.
