Description

SdKfz 221 was developed in 1934 as a light wheeled reconnaissance armored vehicle to replace the old Sdkfz 13 reconnaissance armored vehicle. The basic design is a German standard four-wheel heavy passenger vehicle chassis and Horch engine with a turret and armor as the main body. The SdKfz 221 reconnaissance armored vehicle is assigned to the reconnaissance detachments of the armored and motorized infantry divisions. The SdKfz 221 reconnaissance armored vehicle was active on the Polish and French fronts at the beginning of the war. In 1942, the Germans installed the 2.8cm sPzB41 anti-tank gun on a newly designed machine gun tower to enhance the firepower of the Sd.kfz 221 reconnaissance armored vehicle and extend its service life.
