Description
Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23BN ("Flogger-H") Soviet ground attack variable-wing jet fighter introduced in 1973. Based on MiG-23B, equipped with R-29-300 engine as fitted to contemporary fighter variants, and "type 3" wings. There were other minor changes in electronics and equipment, and some changes were made during its long production run which lasted until 1985 with 624 built.
Regarded as an interim type by the Soviets, most were exported and only a small number served in Soviet Air Force Frontal Aviation regiments. A downgraded variant was sold to Third World customers and proved to be fairly popular and effective.
