Description
This model kit recreates the German Tank Destroyer Marder II. During the early stages of the German invasion of the Soviet Union, the anti-tank self-propelled gun Marder II countered overpowering Russian tanks T-34 and KV-2. In 1941 it had become clear that not only Panzerkampfwagen III and IV but also the 5cm Pak 38 did not have enough power, and the 7.5cm Pak 40 was developed; it could penetrate 130mm armor plate from 1,000m away, and at a rate of up to 14 shots per minute. The Marder II equipped the 7.5cm Pak 40 with the open-top fighting compartment based upon the Panzerkampfwagen II. Production started in the middle of 1942.
