Galaxy Hobby 1/72 Scale M1240 M-ATV MRAP All Terrain Vehicle with M153 CROWS II - Plastic Model Building Kit # GH72A02. The M-ATV was designed as a more capable temporary replacement (until the availability of the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle) to US Military's fleet of up-armored HMMWV's, which were quickly aging and also found to be lacking in performance in hostile environments such as Afghanistan and Iraq. The vehicles were also envisioned to be a highly protected, but more a maneuverable alternative to the larger, more cumbersome MRAP fleet in use. The M-ATV uses the proven and very capable chassis and TAK-4 suspension, which has been used in the USMC's Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement (MTVR) truck series. The first version of the M-ATV's in US Military service were subsequently designated M1240. This kit depicts the M1240 M-ATV mine resistant ambush protected all terrain vehicle in its version with the M153 CROWS II weapon station.
